How to convert HEIC to PDF

Drag your HEIC photos onto the upload area, or click Choose File and pick them from your device. You can add several at once or keep adding more. Click Create PDF, wait while the photos are converted, and then use the Download button to save the PDF. Your original HEIC files are not changed.

Everything is combined into one PDF with one photo per page, in the order you added them. If you want a separate PDF for each photo, convert them one at a time.

What is a HEIC file, and why is it awkward to put in a PDF?

HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads have saved by default since iOS 11. It stores a picture in much less space than a JPG, but many programs, websites, printers and older computers cannot read it. That includes plenty of PDF tools, which expect JPG or PNG images. This converter decodes the HEIC first and then builds the PDF from the decoded picture, so you do not need a separate step.

Why convert HEIC to PDF?

A PDF is the format people expect for documents. Typical reasons to turn HEIC into PDF are photographing a receipt, contract or form with your phone and sending it as one file; uploading photos to a portal that accepts only PDF; printing a set of pictures in order; attaching several photos to an email as a single document; and keeping a tidy archive. You get a file that opens on any phone, tablet or computer.

How the PDF is built: page size and quality

Each photo is decoded at its full resolution, placed on its own A4 portrait page and scaled down to fit inside the margins, keeping its proportions. Inside the PDF the picture is stored as a high-quality JPEG (92%), so the page looks like your photo, but the result is not a byte-for-byte copy of the original. The HEIC file's extra data, such as its capture date and location, is not carried into the PDF.

Two practical points. The PDF contains a picture of the page, not text, so words in a photographed document cannot be selected or searched. And large photos make large PDFs, so for a very long set it helps to convert in smaller groups, especially on an older phone.

Combine multiple HEIC files into one PDF

Select every photo you want in one go, or add them in several rounds; the page order follows the order they were added, and the thumbnails show you what is in the batch. If a file in the group cannot be read, the others still go into the PDF and the problem file is listed with the reason, so one bad photo does not lose the whole job.

Tips for good HEIC to PDF results

For documents photographed with a phone, shoot straight on in good light, fill the frame with the page and crop out the table before converting; the PDF will look cleaner and be smaller. Keep each set to a reasonable size, since every photo is decoded at full resolution. Remember that a PDF made from photos is a collection of pictures, so if you need searchable text you would need OCR software afterwards. And because the pages follow the order you added the files, add them in reading order.

Works on iPhone, Mac, Windows and Android

The converter runs in your browser, so it works on iPhones and iPads, Macs, Windows PCs, Chromebooks and Android phones, without installing an app or a HEIF codec pack. Your photos are decoded and the PDF is created on your device; they are not sent to FreeConverte's servers.

Other conversions for your photos

If you need the pictures themselves rather than a document, use HEIC to JPG for small, widely accepted files or HEIC to PNG for a lossless copy. Photos already in PNG or JPG can be combined with PNG to PDF or Image to PDF.
