How to convert HEIC to PNG
Drag your HEIC images onto the upload area above, or click Choose File and select them from your device. Click Convert to PNG, then download each result on its own or, if you converted several, all of them in one ZIP. The original HEIC files stay untouched.
Everything runs in your browser. The converter is loaded the first time you select a file (a few megabytes) and your images are not sent to a server. Because PNG files are large, very big photos can take a little while and use a fair amount of memory.
What HEIC is, and why people convert it to PNG
HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads have used by default since iOS 11. It stores a photo in much less space than JPG, but many programs, websites and older systems cannot open it. PNG is the opposite trade: a widely supported, lossless format with no lossy compression, and one that supports transparency, which is why design tools, presentation software and publishing workflows tend to ask for it.
Common reasons to convert are an app or website that accepts PNG but not HEIC, wanting a lossless copy to edit repeatedly, and preparing images for design or documentation work. Ordinary camera photos do not have transparent areas, so the transparency support matters less here than the lossless storage.
HEIC to PNG without losing quality
PNG does not use lossy compression, so the conversion step does not make the image any worse: the pixels decoded from your HEIC are written out as they are, at the original width and height. What PNG cannot do is undo the compression your phone already applied when it saved the HEIC, and the result is 8 bits per channel, so any extra color depth in the original is reduced.
Two other things do not carry over: a Live Photo becomes a single still image, and the original's metadata, such as capture date and location, is not included in the PNG. Expect the file to be much larger than the HEIC — that is the price of lossless storage. If size matters more than a lossless copy, HEIC to JPG produces far smaller files.
Choosing between PNG and JPG
For photos you plan to share, post or email, JPG is normally the practical option. PNG makes sense when you will keep editing the image and want no further compression each time you save, or when you are working with graphics rather than photographs. If you end up with a PNG that is bigger than you need, PNG to JPG and PNG to WebP can bring the size back down.
Converting a batch of HEIC files
If you have a whole folder of HEIC photos, select them all in one step. Each file is converted independently, so a damaged or unsupported file only affects itself, and you will see exactly which ones succeeded. When you are finished, download the files one by one or grab the whole set as a ZIP. On a phone or older computer, a few dozen files at a time is more comfortable than hundreds, since each PNG takes real memory to build.
After you convert
With your images in PNG, JPG to PNG handles any other photos you have in JPG, and Image to PDF can combine several into one document. If you would rather have smaller files from the start, the HEIC to JPG converter does the same job with JPG output.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert HEIC to PNG?
Add your HEIC files to the converter at the top of this page, click Convert to PNG, and download the results. It works online in your browser, with nothing to install and no account needed. Each photo gets its own download button, and a ZIP is offered when you convert more than one.
Can I convert several HEIC files to PNG at once?
Yes. Select as many HEIC files as you like in one go — or keep adding more — and they are converted one after another. If one file fails, the rest still finish, and you can download the successful ones individually or as a single ZIP. PNG files are large, so on a phone or an older computer it is easier to work in batches of a few dozen at most.
How do I convert HEIC to PNG on Windows 11?
The easiest way is to use the converter on this page in Edge or Chrome; it does not depend on anything installed in Windows. Windows itself can also do it: install the free HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store (some PCs also need the HEVC Video Extensions), open the photo in Paint, and choose File > Save as > PNG picture.
How do I convert HEIC images to PNG on iPhone?
The iPhone camera cannot capture straight to PNG: it saves HEIC, or JPG if you set Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible. To get PNG files, open this page in Safari, choose your HEIC photos and convert them, then save the results to Files or Photos.
Is it better to convert HEIC to JPG or PNG?
For ordinary photos you want to share or upload, JPG is usually the better choice: the files are far smaller. Choose PNG when you want a lossless copy to edit without further compression, when a design tool or site asks for PNG, or when you need a format that supports transparency.
Will I lose quality when converting HEIC to PNG?
The conversion step itself does not add compression loss, because PNG is lossless: the decoded pixels are saved as they are. The photo was already compressed when your phone saved it as HEIC, and PNG cannot bring that detail back. The output is 8-bit, so any extra color depth in the HEIC is reduced.
Are HEIC files smaller than PNG?
Yes, by a large margin. HEIC is built to be compact, while PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, so a PNG made from a photo is typically many times larger than the HEIC it came from — and larger than a JPG of the same photo.
Is HEIC the same as PNG?
No. HEIC is a compressed photo format used by iPhones, optimized for small file size. PNG is a lossless format used for graphics, screenshots and images that need transparency. They are different formats, which is why converting HEIC to PNG produces a new file.
